Welling School mosaic project

Gary has been appointed as artist in residence for Welling School in Kent. The secondary school was recently awarded specialist art school status by the government and has attracted funding to transform the school into a centre of excellence.

Gary is now working on a series of mosaic panels representing the arts in the school.

The mural was created by printing photographs onto the back of clear perspex panels behined this fabric patterns were painted in the studio. The photos of local life were taken by Gary and children from St. Saviors School in Lewisham. Also along the 230 foot mural are two

poems produced by children from Lewisham Bridge School working with poet Nii Ayikwel Parkes.The result is a colourful and dynamic mural reflecting everyday life in Lewisham.
The work has recieved praise from all quarters, including passers by, local residents, the council and the developers. You can see the mural in Lewisham on the site of the new regional police station. more details soon...
