Poetry N' Motion
On
the last Sunday of every month, Motion bar on the Embankment hosts a
special Poetry N' Motion night. Not exactly a traditional poetry
reading night, Poetry N' Motion incorporates it with drama and music.
Co-founder
Kamau Crawford explains.'The best way to describe it is as performance
poetry. It's where someone writes down a rhythmic prose and then they
actually perform it in a way that appeals to the crowd'.
They
get all types of performers, from hard core rappers, to novice
performers, to musicians, and anyone can turn up early, sign up and
have a go themselves.
Nii Parkes, a host and poet finds it strange that 'even though it's been running for a long time it never really had the kind of renaissance that it's had in the United States . One thing I'll say about a show like this one is that you get a few take away lines that you could never get anywhere else'.
A
thoroughly entertaining night for everyone, it attracts a varied
audience, with regular members of the circuit, and a growing number of
curious people wanting to do something different on a night out.
One person in the audience said 'it was a good night, good music, good vibes'.
